2019

The most creative and innovative projects have been awarded in a new edition of the Cevisama Lab Ceramic and Bathroom Design Contest, Cevisama’s laboratory of ideas. The proposals have been evaluated by a multidisciplinary jury made up of Pablo Peñín, from the Territorial College of Architects of Valencia; Isabel Rubio, from the College of Interior Designers of the Valencian Community; the architect Paco Sanchis; Dolores Marquina, from the Bestile company, and the journalist Ángel Baez. The project analysis has been carried out at Feria Valencia, where, under the coordination of María Fontes, the jury has chosen the winners from a notable number of exceptional quality proposals. In Ceramic Design, in Category A, corresponding to ‘Ceramic products formed by semi-dry pressing’, the jury decided to award the first prize, endowed with € 2,000, to Macarena Blasco Granell, from the Escola Superior de Ceràmica de l´Alcora (ESCAL ), for his series of tiles “Arcila”. Inspired by Moroccan ceramic motifs, the recognition was awarded for the creation of a traditional hydraulic design on two different finishes of different bases, a granite and a wood. The second prize, worth € 1,000, went to Walt Van Der Veen, Matthijs de Koning and Ewa Poltorak, from the Polytechnic University of Valencia (UPV), for the “Bombeco” project, a concept based on the history of the Bombas building Gens de Valencia, creating an abstract representation of pipes. The jury has valued “the reinterpretation of an aesthetic language within current trends”. In Category B, belonging to ‘Ceramic products shaped by other methods’, it has been agreed to award the first prize – endowed with € 2000 – to Joan Marc Garcés Sabaté, from the Polytechnic University of Catalonia (UPC), for his work “Komorebi “, A system formed on the basis of a ceramic piece with a rectangular base but with an H-section and based on the geometry of the bricks, of which the jury has highlighted” the simplicity of the system, the good treatment it gives to light by creating spaces permeable and versatile ”. The second prize – endowed with € 1000 – has been won by Esther Basterra Ruiz, from the International University of Catalonia (UIC) with her piece “Cool Jar”, whose objective is to reduce the heat load by temporarily retaining rainwater. In this case, the jury has underlined “the originality of the technical drainage pavement solution as an investigation of a line of sustainable products in public spaces”. Furthermore, in this category it has been decided to award a second prize without financial prize to the project “Solar CEM”, DE Guillermo Marfa (UIC), for “the integration of renewable energies and vegetation in a large-format ceramic façade element”. For its part, in Bathroom Design, the first prize, endowed with € 2,000, has been won by Natalia Castilla, Belén Valle, Cristina Miñarro from the Escola d´Art Superior de Disseny de València (EASD) for “You are here”. According to the jury, “it is a good contribution to the bathroom concept, with a design that proposes a public toilet as a meeting space with an original floor plan and a graduation of the space from public to private.” The second prize, endowed with € 1000, has been for the project “Spotligh”, by Beatriz Díaz, Sebastián Flores and Ines Msadek (EASD), based on the particular needs of ephemeral events, of which the jury has highlighted the “outstanding modular solution that highlights its functionality and aesthetics, as well as the use of light as a meeting point ”. In addition, without economic endowment, it has been decided to grant an accessit for “The bathroom as a meeting point” by Darío López, Joan Ferrer and Jesús Cuquerella (EASD) “for using the sphere as an iconic element and the proposal for the integration of the interior elements ”. The winning works will be exhibited between pavilions 2 and 4 of Feria Valencia during Cevisama, whose next edition will be held from January 28 to February 1 at Feria Valencia. The awards ceremony will take place on the last day of the fair, Friday 1, at 1:00 p.m. at the central distributor of the fairgrounds (in the area occupied by the Trans-hitos exhibition)
