Leading professionals from the fields of design and architecture make up the jury for the CevisamaLab competition

Cevisama, the international fair for ceramic and bathroom furnishings, is putting together an extensive programme of cultural events for its upcoming edition, set to take place from 5th to 9th February 2018. The programme will once again include the CevisamaLab Ceramic Design and Bathroom Design competitions, which are open to undergraduate students currently enrolled on courses in Design, Fine Art, Architecture and Engineering, postgraduate and masters’ students and 2017 graduates.
The jury judging this next competition will be formed of celebrated professionals from the fields of design, interior design and architecture, including Pepa Casado, founding associate of future-A, where she is lead researcher. The company specializes in research into trends and their application in strategic environments. Casado has been head of the Observatory for Trends in Interiors for a decade and is the author of a number of publications related to trends and lifestyles. She is also a contributor to several leading specialist media.
The students’ designs will also be assessed by Vicent Clausell, who has more than 13 years’ experience as a professional product designer in a number of different sectors and countries. He teaches at the Jaume I university and is a member of Exprimidora’s Board of Directors, Exprimidora being the association of creatives and designers of Castellón. Clausell has also worked for leading companies and his output has been exhibited in cities such as Valencia, Milan, Barcelona, Frankfurt, Paris and Limoges, amongst others.
Joining them will be interior designer Rafa Muñoz, who studied at L´Escola de Disseny d´Alcoi and is a member of the Guild of Interior Designers of the Comunidad Valenciana (CDiCV). Having trained extensively in complementary disciplines and won a range of prizes within Spain, Rafa Muñoz has run his own interior architecture practice, RAFACUB, since 1997, with commissions ranging from interior design to the execution of works for housing, contract and office projects.
Architect Isabel Navarro is to be the fourth member of this outstanding jury. A graduate of the Advanced Technical School of Architecture of Valencia and with extensive experience as a practitioner and teacher, Navarro has been a member of the board of the Official College of Architects of the Comunidad Valenciana, with responsibility for areas including culture, heritage and training.
The final member of the jury is specialist journalist Eugenio Viñas, editor-in-chief for Culture at the Ediciones Plaza group, where he was previously in charge of SEO and social networks, promoting different titles. He writes for media such as VICE España and Tentaciones (part of El País) and has taken part in and moderated debates about cultural issues, as well as being a jury member judging art competitions and the author of publications for institutions such as the SGAE Foundation and the Association of Designers of the Comunitat Valenciana.
As in previous years, there are two sections in the Ceramic Design competition: ceramic products shaped by semi-dry pressing and ceramic products shaped by other methods. The bathroom design competition has a single theme “For the Love of Bathrooms”. The judges will be assessing creativity and how the design shows off the bathroom as a space that promotes wellbeing.
Online application forms can be downloaded from the fair’s website (www.cevisama.com) and can be submitted up until 31st December. The deadline for receipt of entries is 13th January 2018.
